Contents

In this course we will discuss current research in business and economics, with a focus on research utilizing experimental and other empirical methods. Applications will span the fields of strategy, innovation, behavioral economics, public economics, etc.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and Apply Experimental Methods
    • Explain key principles of experimental design in behavioral research, including randomization, control conditions, and causal inference.
    • Design and implement experiments to investigate behavioral insights.
  2. Critically Evaluate Experimental Research
    • Identify strengths and limitations of different experimental designs in behavioral science.
    • Assess the internal and external validity of experimental studies, including potential biases and confounds.
    • Evaluate the replicability and robustness of experimental findings.
  3. Navigate Ethical and Practical Challenges
    • Recognize ethical considerations in experimental research, including informed consent, deception, and data protection.
    • Overcome practical challenges in designing, conducting, and publishing experimental work in behavioral science.
  4. Communicate and Defend Experimental Research
    • Present experimental research clearly and persuasively in both academic and applied settings.
Attendance requirements

In this course we expect students to attend all classes.

Teaching/learning method(s)

Discussion of existing literature related to own projects.
Presentation of own PhD projects.
Revision of projects based on commentary.
Open discussion of projects presented by internal and external speakers

Assessment
The course grade will depend on:
  • Presentation of own research project (50%),
  • Written proposal incorporating feedback (20%), and
  • Discussion of other research projects (30%).
Regular attendance is required for completing this course.
