In the research seminar course, the major issues are the critical evaluation and discussion of the Master's thesis in order to enhance its quality. Principals of scientific work and quality standards of the scientific community will be presented. Lectures will provide input concerning topics of high relevance.

After successful completion of the seminar, students should be able to critically evaluate and discuss published results from the literature. Furthermore, they should have acquired the skills to write a Master's thesis of high quality and to effectively present their work.

Attendance of all units is compulsory.

Literature review, presentations, discussions, and assignments

Proposal presentation:                           16 Points
Intermediate presentation:                     30 Points
Final presentation (Thesis Defensio):       50 Points
Speaker Series:                                       4 Points

Grading scale:

• Excellent (1): 90% - 100.0%
• Good (2): 80% - <90%
• Satisfactory (3): 70% - <80%
• Sufficient (4): 60% - <70%
• Fail (5): <60%

Information regarding the use of AI:
The use of AI-based software for writing support, such as Grammarly, is allowed. However, it is mandatory to indicate the use of any AI-based software in your written work in the 'list of aids' that needs to be submitted with your Msc thesis.

If using AI-based software for text and content generation such as ChatGPT in your reports, presentations, or any other written text, it is mandatory to:
a) verify the information generated and
b) add all relevant references for the text, data, and AI-based software.
c) provide the specific "prompts" you used in the list of aids.

Note that in suspected cases of unauthorized use of AI-based software, we will set up an additional individual oral audit interview with the student.

Information regarding Speaker Series summary: 
Any work handed in for grading can be submitted and graded as course work only once. Otherwise, it would be plagiarism. Therefore, if you want to earn extra points in a course you must submit original summaries.
